Everton FC tickets at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

In 2025 Everton did what clubs of their age rarely do: they moved. After 133 years at Goodison Park, the Toffees now play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock, right on the water.

From Goodison Park to the dock

Goodison Park opened in 1892, one of the oldest football grounds in the world: the first in Britain with undersoil heating, and in 1913 the first ground where a reigning British monarch, George V, watched a football match. If you are searching for Goodison Park, note that it is the former home, not the current one.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium stands on the historic Bramley-Moore Dock north of the city centre, holds roughly 52,800 and cost around £750 million. Its brick, glass and steel exterior deliberately echoes Liverpool's dock architecture, and it is now among the eight largest grounds in England. It will host matches at Euro 2028.

A home end modelled on Dortmund

One detail is worth knowing before you pick your seat: the home end was designed as a steep, single-tier stand explicitly modelled on Borussia Dortmund's Südtribüne — the Yellow Wall was the stated reference. Anyone who has been to Dortmund will recognise the intent at once: as many people as possible, as close and as steeply behind the goal as the regulations allow.

"Z-Cars" — the tune that made the move

Since the early 1960s Everton have come out to the theme from the British television series Z-Cars. It is not an anthem in the usual sense but a short, driving instrumental — and the club's real signature.

The supporters' main worry about the move was whether that moment would survive the change of address. It did: "Z-Cars" played at the first full house on the new site, and the clips went round the city. If you are going, this is the moment to be in your seat for.

Dixie Dean and nine league titles

Everton have been champions of England nine times, most recently in 1987, have won five FA Cups, and took the 1985 Cup Winners' Cup with a 3–1 win over Rapid Vienna in the Rotterdam final — still the club's only European trophy. That side was built around Neville Southall, Gary Stevens, Peter Reid and Kevin Sheedy. Gary Lineker stayed a single season, 1985/86, scored 30 in 41 and left for FC Barcelona.

Above them all stands William "Dixie" Dean, the club's record scorer with 383 goals and a champion in 1928 and 1932. His mark from the title season of 1927/28 has never been beaten: 60 league goals in one campaign. His statue is on every visitor's photograph list.

The Merseyside derby

The rivalry with Liverpool FC dates to 1892, when Everton fell out with the owner of the Anfield site over a rent increase and left — and the other club was founded in the argument that followed. Liverpool's Bill Shankly later joked that there were two football clubs in Liverpool, "Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves". They have not forgotten it at Everton.

The move means the two grounds are no longer a walk through the park apart but about three kilometres — still nothing for a football weekend on Merseyside.
