ETA for England – What is about to change for Premier League and NFL trips in 2025

Football trips Premier League are at least as popular as NFL trips to the NFL London Games 2025. Starting from April 2, 2025, something will change for EU citizens. They will need an ETA, an electronic travel authorization, before beginning their trip to England.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, inaugurated in 2019 – also see the Football trip feature “London’s most modern stadium" – and the English event temple of Wembley will be the venues for the NFL Games in London in 2025.

The New York Jets, the Cleveland Browns, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are already confirmed as Designated Teams.

The Premier League is, with the exception of the summer break, a year-round destination for a football trip to England.

However, "Brexit" has changed England. For non-Europeans, these new travel regulations have been in effect since January 8, 2025.

ETA Application England: How much does it cost?

Travelers from EU countries will be required to do so starting April 2, 2025 – and that is the ETA requirement.

They will need to apply for a paid electronic travel authorization (Electronic Travel Authorization / ETA) for the UK, similar to the ESTA authorization before a trip to the USA.

The ETA England cost is £10, which is approximately 12 euros according to the current exchange rate.

What is ETA England?

The new ETA England starting in 2025 – This travel authorization will be valid for 2 years.
It can already be applied for from March 5, 2025. The authorization is binding for travel to England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.

How do I apply for ETA England?

It’s relatively simple. You can apply for your travel authorization before your respective football trip to the Premier League or NFL trip via an online form at gov.uk or through the UK ETA app, which you can download on your smartphone via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Do Germans need a UK visa?

No. “The ETA is being introduced worldwide for UK travelers who do not require a visa for a short stay, and this applies to EU citizens as well,” according to gov.uk on February 1, 2024.

No visa is required for the UK, but: Personal and biometric data are mandatory when creating such a travel document. According to the portal visitbritain.com, the decision will be made within three days, or even faster via the app.

That means: No time loss when booking a football trip to the Premier League or an NFL trip.
