Every January Kitzbühel becomes the meeting point of the Ski World Cup. The race weekend opens on Friday with the super-G, the downhill on the Streif follows on Saturday and the slalom on the Ganslern slope closes it on Sunday.
The Streif
It is regarded as the hardest downhill in the World Cup: 3,315 metres of course, 860 metres of vertical drop and a maximum gradient of 85 per cent. Sections such as the Mausefalle, the Seidlalm jump and the Hausbergkante are familiar to anyone who has watched the race.
