One last time in the 2023/2024 season: “Wembley calling” – Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid on June 1 at the English football temple. For the third time after 2011 and 2013, the "Henkelpott" will be played out in Wembley . BVB started the countdown to the game on Tuesday – and showed refreshing confidence.
"We still have an unsettled score in this city. In this stadium. In this final," said sports director Sebastian Kehl to Kicker before the duel in the London football temple,
"Real Madrid comes with the conviction of being the greatest club in the world – we will have to fight against that in Wembley. We are facing an opponent who doesn’t know what it feels like to lose a final."

Support from Barcelona
Kehl was in the final with BVB in 2013. The most prominent fan is someone who was also involved in the Wembley final on Dortmund’s side against FC Bayern (1:2) in 2013, but couldn’t score: Robert Lewandowski.
The star striker from FC Barcelona said: "I will support BVB at Wembley."
Greetings to "Barca's" arch-rival Real Madrid! "The Royals" bid farewell to their superstar and five-time Champions League winner (4 times with Real), Toni Kroos, last weekend. The most successful German player of the Champions League era is, along with Mats Hummels and Marco Reus on Dortmund's side, one of the players who were already there in Wembley in 2013.
Kroos will end his unique professional career after the EURO 2024 in Germany. In BVB's last game against relegated Darmstadt 98 (4:0) on May 18, 2024, the most successful Dortmund goal scorer in professional football, Marco Reus, also bid farewell to fans at the Westfalenstadion.
Wembley will be the farewell for BVB's 33-time European Cup scorer. Whether Mats Hummels, who jointly holds the record of 90 European Cup games for the Black and Yellows with Reus, will play for Dortmund again will be decided after the final.
"Darmstadt would have been a picture-perfect farewell," Kehl said of Reus, "if there wasn't something more to come. This final, in which we can crown it."
Real Madrid is the most successful club of all time in the Champions League competition. The Spanish capital club has won the "Henkelpott" 14 times since 1956, most recently in 2022 against FC Liverpool (1:0 in Paris).

Real has never lost a final to a German team
Twice, German clubs couldn’t stop "Los Blancos" on their way to the cup: Eintracht Frankfurt (3:7) in 1960 and Bayer Leverkusen (1:2 / 2002) both lost to Real in Glasgow.
Conversely, Borussia Dortmund won their first CL final in 1997 in Munich against the highly favored Italian record champion Juventus Turin (3:1).
On their way to the 2013 Wembley final, the Ruhr club eliminated Real Madrid in the semi-finals (4:1 / 0:2).
Just like with the epic 3:2 against FC Malaga back then, there was also a duel with a Spanish La Liga club in the quarter-finals in 2024: 1:2 and 4:2 against Atlético Madrid.
"The Royals" have often said goodbye to deserving players through the back door in the past: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Arjen Robben, Ronaldo Nazario.
Not so Toni Kroos. The German was honored with a special photo with Real boss Florentino Perez in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu against Real Betis Sevilla (0:0) – and all 22 trophies he won with the Madrilenians in 10 years were displayed once again. "Gracias por todo," Thanks for everything, was the farewell message on the scoreboards.
