Good to know: Clay, Roof & Getting There

Roland Garros is the only Grand Slam tournament played on clay ("terre battue") — a slower, more unpredictable surface than hard or grass courts that rewards long rallies and tactical play. Since 2020, Centre Court Philippe-Chatrier has featured a retractable roof that can close in around 15 minutes; since 2024, Court Suzanne-Lenglen has had its own roof as well — rain delays on the two main courts have become noticeably rarer as a result. Alongside standard day sessions, Philippe-Chatrier also hosts evening/night sessions with their own schedule. Stade Roland Garros is located in the Bois de Boulogne in southwestern Paris and is easily reached via Metro Line 9 (Porte d'Auteuil or Michel-Ange-Molitor stations).
