It stands on par with the main stars themselves, perhaps even above, as suggested by the welcome message at each session ("You are the stars tonight"). As soon as the drawn-out “One hundred and eighty” – the maximum score with three darts – echoes through the hall, the costumed crowd stands on their chairs and tables.

People dressed as giant bananas dance with the Super Mario Brothers. A two-part dinosaur say cheers to four Teletubbies. And yes, Munich October Festival outfits are also present, as a Darts World Championship trip to London celebrates this unique event and its heroes from working-class backgrounds. The 96-player field includes former tilers (Michael van Gerwen, a three-time world champion) and rugby players like Gerwyn Price.

Gabriel Clemens from Saarland worked as a locksmith before becoming a regular at the Alexandra Palace as the "German Giant." And let's not forget the biggest character with a beer belly among the darts pro's: Peter “Snakebite” Wright! The Scotsman captivates fans with his outrageous mohawks or as the Grinch when his matches are scheduled around Christmas.
