This is the season that will change the league in Scotland. The Premiership enters its final phase on April 26, 2025 – with Heart of Midlothian facing Dundee FC. Celtic is set to become the new, joint record champion in the land of the Bravehearts. But when will we see the final Old Firm Derby of the season between the Glasgow Rangers and Celtic Football Club?
Since April 15, 2025, the so-called post-split fixtures have been set – the league table in Scotland is then divided into a Championship Group and a Relegation Group.
In this second phase of the Scottish Premiership, all teams face each other once either in the battle for the title (group of the top six teams) or in the fight to avoid relegation (group of the bottom six teams from the regular season).
Scotland: How does the second phase of the season work?
After these five additional matchdays, the season concludes. As a result, the team finishing seventh overall could end the season with more points than the sixth-placed team.
The team that tops the Championship Group – made up of the six best teams from the regular season – is crowned Scottish champion.
The team finishing last in the Relegation Group is relegated and replaced by the winner of the Scottish Championship. That’s currently Falkirk FC.
The second-to-last team enters the playoffs against the second to fourth-placed teams from the Championship to fight for their Premiership spot.

Post-Split Fixtures: When can Celtic become record champions?
After 33 matchdays, everything points to Celtic Glasgow claiming their 55th league title, which would make them joint record champions of Scotland alongside their archrivals Rangers.
“The Bhoys” enter the five group games with 81 points, a 15-point lead over the bitterly despised Rangers.
In other words: Celtic’s title is only theoretically at risk, so let’s not pretend there’s still suspense.
Football trips to Celtic Glasgow are especially worth it now, as the club with Catholic roots could potentially celebrate its ninth treble – and who wouldn't want to be there for that?
But first, let’s look at the facts:
Brendan Rodgers’ team collected 81 points in 33 league matches – scoring 97 goals in the process. This point tally carries over into the Championship Group.
Glasgow Rangers managed only 66 points, but they performed well in the Europa League, bowing out in the quarterfinals after a 0–0 home draw in the second leg against Athletic Bilbao (0–2). Celtic exited Europe in the Champions League playoff round of 16 against Bayern Munich (1–2, 1–1).
Can the Rangers frustrate their rivals in the final Old Firm Derby?
Although everything points to Celtic clinching the championship and record title, the “Gers” still have a chance to frustrate their city rivals in the final Old Firm Derby of the season on May 4, 2025. At least a little.
Alasdair Lamont, BBC Scotland commentator, on April 23, 2025, about the Rangers’ practically hopeless title challenge: “Rangers fans just want this season to end, after their dreams of European glory were dashed and only five meaningless league games remain, while rivals Celtic prepare for title number 55.”
“The Hoops,” as Celtic Glasgow are also known, kick off the Top Six group stage on April 26, 2025 (1:30 PM German time) at Dundee United.
Glasgow Rangers will play at St. Mirren FC on April 26, 2025 (4 PM).
Are there tickets for the Old Firm?
The final derby between Rangers and soon-to-be champions Celtic FC takes place at Ibrox on May 4, 2025 (1 PM). Old Firm tickets can be ordered via event-breaks.com.
After that, Celtic Glasgow will host two more home games: on May 10 (4 PM) against Hibernian and on the final matchday, May 17, 2025 (1:30 PM) against St. Mirren FC.
