Motherwell FC Tickets — Scottish Premiership at Fir Park

Fir Park stands on a street named after it, in the middle of a residential area — no sea of car parks, no greenfield site, just terraced housing right up against the back of the stands. This is what British grounds looked like before they moved to the edge of town, and Motherwell is one of the places where you can still see it.

Twenty minutes from Glasgow: the underrated argument

Motherwell lies about twenty kilometres south-east of Glasgow, and the train takes roughly twenty minutes. Anyone planning a Glasgow weekend can add a second league match without changing hotel.

There is a second reason few people mention. When Celtic or Rangers visit Fir Park, you see those teams in a ground a fraction of the size — closer to the pitch than Glasgow ever allows. The Steelmen

The nickname "the Steelmen" did not come from a marketing department but from the town. Motherwell lived on steel for more than a century; the Ravenscraig works was among the largest in Europe until it closed in 1992. The club still carries the name of the industry that built the town and then left it.

Two moments are known to everyone here. In 1932 Motherwell were champions of Scotland — between 1904 and 1948 the only club outside Glasgow to manage it. And in 1991 they won the Scottish Cup 4–3 after extra time against Dundee United, in a final still rated among the best the competition has produced.

What to do around the match

Motherwell itself is a working town with no tourist ambition, and honestly that is not a drawback — you see Scottish football where it comes from, without a set dressed for visitors.

Trains run regularly from Glasgow Central to Motherwell, taking around twenty minutes, with a fifteen-minute walk from the station to Fir Park. Glasgow takes direct flights from Ireland, Scandinavia, the Benelux countries and Germany.
