Premier League Stadiums: Five Insider tips

The Premier League – England’s capital London has been home to seven clubs since the 2024/2025 season: Arsenal FC, Brentford, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United. With good reason, it can rightly call itself the “Football Capital of Europe.” But England’s elite league is not only popular because of its mega-stadiums in London, Liverpool, and Manchester. Premier League trips also lead to stadiums that are often underestimated by mainstream media. 

Premier League trips beyond the big and famous stadiums – where do these trips lead? 

Of course, also to London! Insider tip number five: Fulham FC may not radiate major glamour or boast huge success, but for Premier League football trips, it’s an absolutely worthwhile destination.

Premier League Stadiums in London: What Makes Fulham So Special…

Why is that? Craven Cottage stadium was opened as early as 1894. It’s located directly on the River Thames and is one of the most picturesque stadiums in England – partly due to the pavilion (“The Cottage”) integrated between the Johnny Haynes Stand (formerly Stevenage Road Stand) and the Putney End. However, the stadium's name doesn’t originate from this “cottage,” which was demolished years ago. 

Craven Cottage Renovation: Riverside Stand as a “Game-Changer”

Following the renovation of the stadium from 2022 to 2023, Craven Cottage now seats 29,600 spectators, up from the previous 24,600 (all seated).

In the Riverside Stand adjacent to the river, no wishes go unfulfilled. The “Brasserie at the Water’s Edge” and the “Dugout” bar have been part of London’s exclusive hospitality offerings since late 2024. 

“Don’t get us wrong, but the development of the Riverside Stand, a location like no other, is a real game-changer for Fulham FC, our neighboring communities, and all of London,” says Fulham President Shahid Khan about the new stand.

Described as a “unique mix of old school and modern stands,” the website givemesport.com in February 2025 noted: “It’s often overshadowed by much larger London stadiums like Stamford Bridge, the Emirates Stadium, or Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but its rich history makes it one of the most underrated grounds in Britain.”

This also applies to Insider tip 4: Selhurst Park Stadium, home of Crystal Palace in South London. It’s just a 36-minute drive from Craven Cottage in Fulham and easily accessible every 30 minutes via several train stations (Selhurst and Thornton Heath).

Football trip tip: The name Crystal Palace is misleading – the station with the same name has nothing to do with the stadium or its surroundings! 

In the stadium, it’s the home fans – the “Holmesdale Ultras,” located on the Holmesdale End stand and to the left of the away section – who stand out with their loud and atmospheric chants. They create a great stadium atmosphere, and this energy carries over to the players on the pitch. It paid off. Under the leadership of Austrian coach Oliver Glasner, “The Eagles” flew into the FA Cup Final in 2025. 

Let’s stay in London, specifically in the west of the British capital, with Insider tip number three, the Gtech Community Stadium of Brentford FC. 

It is one of the newest Premier League arenas, replacing the legendary Griffin Park as the home of the “Bees” in 2020. 

What makes Brentford’s stadium so unique: With 17,250 seats, it’s one of the smallest Premier League venues of all time, yet it harmonizes perfectly with the surrounding residential buildings, and fans sit very close to the pitch. 

The stadium’s distinctive location reminds me of places like Grünwalder Straße in Munich or Betzenberg in Kaiserslautern, where Bundesliga matches could be watched for free from nearby homes. 

The same applies in Brentford. You can watch Premier League for free here. But with rents around €1,500 per month, that’s – much like in Munich – all relative… 

Insider tip number 2: The City Ground in Nottingham – A stadium located almost picturesquely on the River Trent, which became iconic during the legendary success of the “Tricky Trees” in the late 1970s and early 1980s. 

With Nottingham’s fall to third-tier Football League One, the City Ground fell off the radar for many English fans, but it hasn’t lost any of its charm.

This is largely thanks to the electrifying “Trent End Stand” which holds 7,500 spectators. 

Premier League Trips Leeds: England’s Most Underrated Stadium?

Underrated Premier League stadiums? Insider tip number one on our list is Elland Road, home of Leeds United.

As Championship winners, the 46-match second tier of English football, back in the Premier League, Elland Road is one of the most atmospheric arenas on the island. 

Renovated in 1992 for EURO 1996 in England, the atmosphere at Elland Road has stunned many opponents. One reason is the East Stand, which holds over 15,000 spectators and is one of the largest single-tier stands in England. 

In front of the stadium: The statue of Leeds legend Billy Bremner (†1997), twice English champion and twice Inter-Cities Fairs Cup winner with the “Whites,” is a popular photo spot. 

“When Elland Road is rocking,” says United’s German promotion coach Daniel Farke, “it gives you that extra push.”

And then there’s the unofficial anthem! “I Predict a Riot” by the Kaiser Chiefs is cult at Elland Road.

Leeds United: New Stadium and More Tickets 

Leeds United will play in the Premier League again in 2025/2026 – and the prospect of more tickets for Leeds United is tempting. After expansion plans approved by the city council in 2025, the stadium will accommodate 56,500 people, making it the seventh-largest football stadium in England.

Elland Road Leeds Pubs: Where to Find Fish & Chips?

This likely won’t change much about the pub culture around Elland Road. The closest pub to the stadium is the “Old Peacock,” 251 Elland Rd., Beeston, Leeds LS11 8TU, which, according to groundhopping expert Duncan Adams, is only recommended for home fans. Also iconic is the takeaway “United Fisheries,” 433 Leeds & Bradford Road, Leeds LS13 2AZ England, where crispy fish & chips are available in several variations. More than just an insider tip…
