Brentford tickets: 17,250 seats in the middle of west London

The Gtech Community Stadium holds around 17,250 — a quarter of what the big London clubs offer, and the smallest ground in the Premier League. That is exactly the appeal. All four stands sit close to the pitch, the away end is behind the goal, and the noise carries in a way it never could in a bowl built for 60,000.

For a football trip to London that means seeing the Premier League up close rather than from the third tier. And because capacity is so small, tickets for visits from Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City go quickly.

From Griffin Park to the new ground

Until 2020 the Bees spent 96 years at Griffin Park — the stadium famous for having a pub on each of its four corners. The new ground kept the intimacy and added the legroom. The old pubs, incidentally, are still there.

Promotion in 2021, and the long road to it

Founded in 1889, the club from the western edge of the London metropolitan area reached the Premier League for the first time in 2021. Long years in the lower divisions came before that: the Fourth Division between 1973 and 1978, and the fourth tier again from 2007 to 2009. The promotion side included England striker Ivan Toney, who had scored 31 goals in the preceding Championship season, and German under-21 European champion Vitaly Janelt.

The comeback that travelled the world

On 26 February 2022 Brentford stood at the centre of the football world. Christian Eriksen, who had suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 in Copenhagen during the match against Finland, returned to professional football that day. Serie A regulations had made a return to Inter Milan impossible; Brentford signed him. He made eleven appearances for the Bees before joining Manchester United later that year — and remains, for many supporters, the most significant player in the club's history.

And a Sir who never made it

In 1960 a fifteen-year-old from the London district of Highgate had a trial at Brentford and signed a pre-contract the following year. It was not enough for a professional career — which mattered less once Rod Stewart recorded "Maggie May" a decade later. Paul "Merse" Merson and Les Ferdinand also wore the Bees shirt during the 1980s.

The day before kick-off

The stadium sits next to Kew Bridge station, a few minutes from Kew Gardens and the Thames towpath. A walk from Chiswick past the boathouses, a riverside pub and then the match — a very different matchday from the trek out to the big arenas in the north and east of the city.
