More about corporate events

Some clubs are the reason for the trip. 1. FC Köln is part of a weekend that would have been worth taking anyway. Cologne is one of the few German cities where you cannot really go wrong without a plan — and the football supplies the plan for free.

1. FC Köln tickets 2026/27: seventeen home fixtures at the RheinEnergieStadion

Köln play in the Bundesliga in 2026/27, with seventeen home matches between late August 2026 and the end of May 2027. Book the Ticket Combo — your seat paired with something to do in the city — or the travel package with a hotel if you are staying two nights and want the city as well.

Hennes: the only Bundesliga club with a live billy goat

Since 1950 a goat named Hennes has accompanied the team — a gift from the circus director Carola Williams, named after the then coach Hennes Weisweiler. Every successor has carried the same name with a rising number, and the animal stands at the touchline in person rather than in a costume.

The goat is not a marketing idea; it is older than the Bundesliga itself. It also appears on the badge alongside Cologne Cathedral — club and city in one mark. The club was founded on 13 February 1948 from a merger of Kölner BC 01 and SpVgg Sülz 07, and in 1964 became the first champion of the Bundesliga. The 1978 side took the league and cup double.

"Mer stonn zo dir": why Cologne sings before kick-off

Shortly before kick-off the ground plays "Mer stonn zo dir, FC Kölle" — in the Kölsch dialect, by the band Höhner, and sung back by a stadium that knows every word. It translates as "we stand by you", and it is deliberately not a promise of victory but a pledge of loyalty. Anyone who knows this club's history understands why.

The home end is the Südkurve. When the flags go up there and the west stand joins in, you get one of the moments that justify travelling to a football match at all — regardless of who the visitors are.

The Rhine derby against Gladbach — and the second one against Leverkusen

Cologne has the luxury of two derbies in a season. The older and sharper is the Rheinisches Derby against Borussia Mönchengladbach: 1. FC Köln against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 10 October 2026. See the Borussia Mönchengladbach page.

The second is the neighbourhood fixture against the works club down the road: 1. FC Köln against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 7 November 2026 — see Bayer Leverkusen. Tickets in several categories are already available for that one.

Bayern and Dortmund tickets at the Müngersdorfer Stadion

The two biggest visitors come in winter and spring: 1. FC Köln against Borussia Dortmund on 13 January 2027 and against Bayern Munich on 20 March 2027. Club pages: Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Also on sale is Köln against VfB Stuttgart on 30 January 2027, see VfB Stuttgart. For a fixture with its own history, take 1. FC Köln against Schalke 04 on 24 October 2026.

The ground is officially the RheinEnergieStadion but is still widely called the Müngersdorfer Stadion, after the district in the west of the city — both names mean the same building. It opened in 1923 and was completely rebuilt for the 2006 World Cup; capacity today is around 50,000.

Carnival, the cathedral and Kölsch

The cathedral stands two minutes from the main station and is one of the few sights that still stops you on a third visit. Kölsch beer comes in narrow 0.2-litre glasses and is replaced without asking until you put the beer mat on top — a local rule worth knowing before your first round.

Then there is Carnival. From the Thursday before Lent to Rose Monday the city stops working and does the opposite instead. If your home fixture falls in that window, book early — the hotels went long ago.

Getting to Müngersdorf

Cologne is easy to reach: high-speed trains stop at the main station, Cologne/Bonn airport is around fifteen minutes away by S-Bahn, and direct services run from the Netherlands and Belgium — for Benelux readers this is a day trip rather than a journey.

For the ground, take the S-Bahn to Köln-Müngersdorf/Technologiepark and walk about ten minutes through the green belt, or the tram line 1 to Aachener Straße/Gürtel. Match tickets usually include local transport — check the small print on yours.

Ticket Combo or travel package

The Ticket Combo pairs your seat with something in the city — depending on the date that might be a sightseeing tour, the Chocolate Museum on the riverbank, or a stadium tour. The travel package adds the hotel; for an evening kick-off the second night is the sensible choice anyway.

Tell us which home fixture you want and how long you are staying, and we will assemble the rest.
