It sits in the Hardtwald on the northern edge of Karlsruhe, and the path runs between old trees until the clearing opens and a modern build appears that fits its surroundings not at all — which is exactly why it works.

The Miracle of the Wildpark: 7–0 against Valencia

On 2 November 1993 Karlsruher SC met Valencia in the UEFA Cup, having lost the first leg in Spain 1–3. What followed is the most famous night in the club's history: 7–0.

It remains among the heaviest defeats a German side has inflicted on opposition of that standing in European competition. In Karlsruhe it is known simply as "das Wunder vom Wildpark", the miracle of the Wildpark, and anyone who asks about the name in the stadium will get the 1993 line-up recited back to them.

A new build on old ground

Today's stadium is not the Wildparkstadion of 1993. Between 2018 and the early 2020s it was rebuilt on the same site — with matches continuing throughout, one stand at a time. The result is a modern arena with a different roof structure from its predecessor.

The old name Wildparkstadion has stuck, and rightly: same place, same woodland setting, same address. If that is what you are searching for, you are in the right spot.

Tickets for the south-west derby against Kaiserslautern

The rest of the home season

The strongest fixtures are FC St. Pauli on 3 March 2027, Hertha BSC on 17 April 2027 and Hannover 96 on 13 February 2027 — see Hannover 96.

For a quieter first visit, take SV Darmstadt 98 on 17 October 2026 or Holstein Kiel on 5 December 2026 — the forest setting is the same whoever visits.

Karlsruhe: the city built like a fan

Karlsruhe is a planned city dating from 1715. Thirty-two streets radiate outward from the palace — seen from above the city resembles an opened fan, which is why it is called the Fächerstadt. Few European cities carry their drawing-board origins so visibly.

Add the Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice, which make Karlsruhe Germany's judicial capital, and the ZKM — a centre for art and media in a former munitions factory with an international reputation the city itself does not have.

And the position: Strasbourg is an hour away, the Black Forest begins to the east, Alsace to the west. A matchday here extends easily into a cross-border weekend.

Getting there and making an enquiry

Karlsruhe sits on the Rhine valley high-speed line, about an hour from Frankfurt and slightly less from Stuttgart. Frankfurt and Stuttgart airports both serve northern Europe. A tram runs to the Wildpark — Karlsruhe invented the model in which trams also run on main-line rails, so a single ticket carries you from the surrounding region to the stadium gate.
