1. FC Magdeburg Tickets — Football Trips to the Avnet Arena

On 8 May 1974, in Rotterdam, 1. FC Magdeburg won the European Cup Winners' Cup, beating AC Milan 2–0 in the final. It remains the only European trophy ever won by a club from East Germany, and in Magdeburg it is not a museum piece but the reference point everything is measured against.

FCM play in the 2. Bundesliga, at home in the Avnet Arena — a ground many still know by its former name, the MDCC-Arena. It opened in 2006.

Rotterdam 1974: East Germany's only European trophy

AC Milan were holders and fielded Gianni Rivera. Magdeburg were a side nobody outside East Germany had considered. The match finished 2–0, and the trophy went to a city most of western Europe could not have placed on a map.

Add three East German league titles and seven cup wins. Ask in Magdeburg why expectations run high and you will be given those numbers — by people born long after 1974.

Tickets for two eastern derbies

The biggest home fixture of the year is against Dynamo Dresden: 1. FC Magdeburg against Dynamo Dresden on 6 March 2027. Two clubs with substantial East German pasts, two of the loudest supports in German football, and a rivalry that long predates reunification.

The second is FCM against Energie Cottbus on 28 November 2026 — smaller in sporting terms, but a date of its own for the atmosphere.

For both: demand is high and allocations are limited. Ask early and we can tell you honestly what is possible.

Magdeburg: the cathedral, Hundertwasser and the Elbe

Magdeburg Cathedral is the first Gothic cathedral built on German soil — construction began in 1209, some forty years before Cologne. Otto the Great, the first Holy Roman Emperor, is buried inside it.

Two hundred metres away stands its exact opposite: the Grüne Zitadelle, the last building designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser — pink, irregular, with trees growing out of the windows. Two structures eight hundred years apart, within sight of each other.

The Elbe runs between them, and the Elbe cycle route passes straight through the city. A morning by the river is the obvious complement to an afternoon of football.

Getting there and making an enquiry

Magdeburg sits on the high-speed line between Berlin and Hanover — about ninety minutes from Berlin, a little over an hour from Hanover, both of which take direct flights from across northern Europe. A tram runs from the main station to the Avnet Arena in a few minutes.
