Besiktas are one of Istanbul's big three alongside Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, and traditionally the club of the working city. Their ground stands on the site of the old İnönü Stadium next to the Dolmabahçe Palace on the Bosphorus - among the most striking settings in European football.

Hoffenheim itself is a district of Sinsheim with around 3,300 residents, smaller than anywhere else that has supplied a Bundesliga club. The PreZero Arena holds just over 30,000, with clear sightlines from every seat.

The Technik Museum Sinsheim sits beside the stadium, and on its roof stand a Concorde and a Tupolev Tu-144 side by side - the only two supersonic airliners ever to carry passengers, displayed together nowhere else on earth. An obvious way to fill the afternoon.
