TSG Hoffenheim tickets: Bundesliga football from a village of 3,000

Hoffenheim is a district of Sinsheim with around 3,000 inhabitants. Its football club spent most of its history in the amateur leagues, reached the Bundesliga in 2008 and has stayed there ever since — with a run in the Champions League along the way. There is no second story like it in German football.

The PreZero Arena

Opened in 2009, the stadium holds around 30,150 and is a dedicated football ground: two tiers all the way round, no running track, steep stands with a clear view from every seat, and a roof that keeps the noise inside. The Sinsheim south stand drives the atmosphere.

Access was planned in from the start: Sinsheim Museum/Arena station is a few minutes' walk from the ground. That makes the matchday unusually straightforward compared with clubs whose stadium sits on the edge of a large city.

The fixtures worth asking about early

Demand is highest for the regional clashes with VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt from the Rhine-Neckar region, and for the visits of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Enquire early for those. VIP and hospitality seats are available on request.

Why the trip works: Heidelberg and the Kraichgau

Heidelberg lies 25 kilometres from the ground — a castle above the Neckar, the Old Bridge, and Germany's oldest university. It is one of the most visited cities in the country and turns a matchday into a weekend.

Next to the arena stands the Technik Museum Sinsheim, with a Concorde and a Tupolev Tu-144 mounted on its roof, alongside the Sinsheim thermal baths. For anyone travelling with family, the day before the match plans itself.

Getting there
