Hertha BSC tickets: the biggest ground in German league football

74,475 seats — no German club plays week in, week out in a larger arena. The Olympiastadion was built in natural stone in 1936, roofed for the 2006 World Cup, and kept its stone colonnades, the Marathon Gate and the bell tower. This is not a modern football ground but a listed monument. Walk in through the eastern gate and see the stands for the first time, and it is immediately clear why this stadium is in a category of its own.

Hertha are known to everyone as the Old Lady, and the Ostkurve is loud, direct and unmistakably Berlin. Because of the capacity, this is one of the easier big-city tickets to obtain in Germany.

A stadium that has seen everything

No other ground in the world has completed the treble of hosting a World Cup final, a European Championship final and a Champions League final. Berlin is the German Wembley:

• the DFB-Pokal final every year since 1985
• the 2006 World Cup final between Italy and France
• the 2024 European Championship final
• the 2015 Champions League final, Barcelona against Juventus
• the famous blue track, where Usain Bolt set his still-unbeaten 100m world record of 9.58 seconds in 2009

That blue tartan is no coincidence — it is laid in the club colours of Hertha BSC.

The Old Lady of the capital

Founded in 1892 and named after a steamship, Hertha BSC are among the most traditional clubs in Germany. The nickname stands for exactly that persistence: a club that has known highs and lows, and whose supporters fill the Olympiastadion regardless. Attendances are among the highest in the country whatever the league position — full stands and a real atmosphere even when no title is at stake.

Choosing where to sit

The Olympiastadion is a shallow bowl, so there is barely a bad seat, but the experiences differ considerably. The side opposite the main stand gives the best overview of play; behind the goals you are closer to the singing. The Ostkurve is home to the active support, while the main stand is the quieter choice. Seats together are the norm with us rather than a stroke of luck, and for larger groups we confirm it before booking.

A football weekend in Berlin

Few clubs sit in a city with this much to offer. The ground is in Westend, half an hour from the Brandenburg Gate. Museum Island, the East Side Gallery, what remains of the Wall, the street art of Kreuzberg and the market halls turn ninety minutes into three days without effort — and Berlin is one of the few cities where the evening after the match is only the beginning. The Olympic bell tower and the Waldbühne amphitheatre are right by the stadium.

The Berlin derby

The fixture against 1. FC Union Berlin is the intense one, and the one that sells out first. If you want to be there, enquire considerably earlier than usual.

• Tickets for home fixtures at the Olympiastadion, including the Berlin derby when the calendar allows
• Hotels across Berlin, centrally in Mitte or Charlottenburg, with a direct S-Bahn link to the ground
• A hotel-and-ticket package, or a ticket combined with a sightseeing element such as a city tour
• Group travel from ten people upwards is quoted individually — family, friends, supporters' club or company

Getting to the Olympiastadion

Berlin is served by BER airport from across Europe and by direct trains from all over the German-speaking region. S-Bahn lines S3 and S9 run from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Olympiastadion station, and the U2 underground stops at Olympia-Stadion — around twenty minutes from the main station. Allow considerably more time than usual on matchday.
