The stadium in the quarry

The Estádio Municipal was built into a disused granite quarry. It has only two stands; behind one goal rises a sheer rock face, behind the other the view opens over the city. Its architect, Eduardo Souto de Moura, later received the Pritzker Prize, the highest honour in his field.
