Hajduk host the four-time European champions on a date still to be announced. In Dalmatia this is one of those fixtures the whole city talks about for a week beforehand.

The Torcida and the Poljud

Founded in 1950, the Torcida are reckoned the oldest organised supporters' group in Europe. Their stage is the Poljud, built for the 1979 Mediterranean Games, its shell-shaped roof covering some 33,000 seats - a building worth seeing in its own right.

Ajax Amsterdam

Four European Cups, the school of Cruyff, and a name that still stands across the continent for developing players. Their support travels well.

Split

Well served by flights from northern Europe, particularly in the shoulder season. Diocletian's Palace is a lived-in old town, the Riva runs along the water and the Marjan hill rises behind it, all within walking distance.
