European champions in 1982

Villa won the European Cup in Rotterdam in May 1982, beating Bayern Munich through Peter Withe's goal. Few English clubs have that on their record, and European nights at Villa Park carry the weight of it.

The ground

Villa Park has stood in north Birmingham since 1897 and holds about 42,600. The Holte End is among the best-known stands in English football, and the listed façade of the Trinity Road Stand recalls the architecture of the turn of the century.

England's second city is easy to reach by air, directly or via London. Trains from New Street run to Witton and Aston, both a short walk from the ground. The canals around Brindleyplace, the library and the Jewellery Quarter fill a day comfortably.
