The Vonovia Ruhrstadion holds around 26,000 and was one of the first pure football grounds in Germany when it was rebuilt in the 1970s. The stands sit tight to the touchline, the roof traps the sound, and the Ostkurve fills long before kick-off. Supporters of visiting clubs regularly rate it among the best away days in the country.
Bochum has spent most of its history moving between the top two divisions and has kept a following that behaves as if it were a much bigger club. Herbert Grönemeyer's song about the city is sung before every home match.
