Hamburger SV tickets for home games at the Volksparkstadion

Few German fixtures combine as easily with a city break as a Hamburger SV home game: the stadium on Saturday, the harbour and the Reeperbahn in the evening. We source tickets through our vetted partner network, as a Ticket Combo or together with a hotel in Hamburg.

The Dino is back in the Bundesliga

For decades HSV carried a nickname no other club could claim: der Dinosaurier, the dinosaur, because they were the only side never relegated from the Bundesliga. That ended in 2018, and seven seasons in the second division followed. The club returned to the top flight in 2025, and the mood in the ground still carries that. If you want to see what a division means to a city, Hamburg will show you. The club's other name is die Rothosen — the red shorts, after the kit.

"Mein Hamburg lieb ich sehr" — and the Perle lives on

The official club song before kick-off at the Volksparkstadion is now "Mein Hamburg lieb ich sehr" — "I love my Hamburg dearly". Its predecessor has not disappeared: Lotto King Karl's "Hamburg, meine Perle", Hamburg my pearl, remains a supporters' favourite and you will still hear it around the ground on matchday. Two songs for the same city, and knowing both tells you something about football culture here.

Volksparkstadion: opened in 1953, modernised in 2024

The Volksparkstadion dates from 1953 and holds 57,000 today, with the most recent modernisation completed in 2024. Its name is worth a note: the ground carried several sponsor names over the years and is now called the Volksparkstadion again — a rare case of the traditional name coming back rather than disappearing. The distinctive roof structure is visible from the A7 motorway well before you arrive.

Ticket Combo or ticket and hotel: what you can book

There are two ways to see a home game. The Ticket Combo pairs your match ticket with a tourist element such as a harbour cruise or a city tour, and books like a ticket without accommodation. The ticket and hotel package adds a room in Hamburg and is usually the better choice here, because the city is half the reason for the trip.

Football and a harbour city: the weekend around the match

Hamburg is one of the few places where a matchday and a city break need no compromise. The harbour and the Elbphilharmonie in the morning, the stadium in the afternoon, live music around the Reeperbahn at night — as good for two people as for a group. We choose hotels on that basis: central, with a decent connection to the Volksparkstadion, rather than close to the ground and far from everything else.

Which fixture to aim for

Demand is highest for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. A Bundesliga home game against a mid-table side is the cheaper and more available way in — and in Hamburg often the better choice, since the weekend belongs to the city anyway. Exact kick-off times are usually confirmed six to eight weeks ahead, so flexible travel dates help.

Getting there from Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland and the Benelux

Hamburg is the closest major German city to Scandinavia, which makes it the easiest Bundesliga trip from Denmark and southern Sweden — by train or by a short flight. Hamburg Airport sits near the city and has connections from Britain and Ireland, and there are good rail links from the Netherlands. On matchday the S-Bahn and shuttle buses run to the Volksparkstadion. Groups from ten travellers are quoted individually, and extra nights, room types and transfers can be added to any package.
