Football Trips Championship thrive on many big clubs. Leeds United is just one of many English champions or even European Cup winners now playing in the 2nd division. "The Peacocks" played a 0-0 draw in our Match of the Week against FC Burnley at Turf Moor, but Leeds United can still dream of a return to the Premier League in the mammoth league of English football – 46 long matchdays will determine if they can rise or if they will have to settle for the playoff games

How far the road to the Premier League is could be seen on January 27, 2025, in Burnley. In the top match, third-placed FC Burnley and Leeds United neutralized each other on a relatively low level.

FC Burnley: With this defense, you'll get promoted

In Burnley vs. Leeds United, we are talking about the match between the best away team and the home powerhouse of the Championship.

"The Clarets" of FC Burnley won nine of their 15 away games.

Leeds secured 12 of 15 possible home victories at Elland Road, with only one loss – and that was against Burnley on matchday 5.

In the calendar year 2025, Leeds remained unbeaten in all six competitive matches, including FA Cup against Harrogate Town (1:0) on January 11.

In windy and rainy weather, we were right in the midst of the authentic English football atmosphere of the Championship at Turf Moor, even without any goals. No beauty prizes are awarded here, but you can feel the culture.

What was impressive was the defensive performance of the team of German coach Daniel Farke, not only in Burnley. Four of the six matches in 2025 were played by United without conceding a goal.

With the draw, Leeds United has now been unbeaten in 11 matches. Burnley's 20th clean sheet of the season in this Championship campaign, having conceded only 9 goals in 29 matches, was also due to the fact that in the 39th minute, Leeds was not awarded a penalty after a shove against Sam Byram.

Ten hours without conceding a goal

Scott Parker’s team got lucky in the 89th minute when Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford deflected a shot from Dan James over the crossbar.

The last time a player managed to beat Burnley’s defense and keeper was on December 21, 2024. That time, FC Watford scored the last goal against FC Burnley in a 2-1 win at Turf Moor, and since then, the "Clarets" have gone 10 hours without conceding a goal.

However, they recorded their ninth 0-0 of the season against Leeds.

"It may not have been the most entertaining game," said Daniel Farke afterward on BBC, "it wasn’t a beautiful piece of football, but that often happens when two of the strongest teams in the league face each other. It’s not always entertaining, but our fans have a good sense of the game and know how complicated it is to play against such a strong opponent."

It’s more entertaining with Leeds indeed at their home ground, Elland Road. Football trips to Leeds United are a lot of fun with 35 home goals in 15 games.

Since the turn of the year, only Blackburn Rovers (1-1) have managed to take a point from Elland Road.

Who are Leeds United's next opponents at Elland Road?

Leeds United will host Cardiff City, another former Premier League club, on February 1, 2025, before facing AFC Sunderland in the Monday Night Game on February 17, 2025.

When will league leaders Leeds United face their chasers, "The Blades," Sheffield United?

The match between these two traditional teams will take place on matchday 34 at Bramall Lane in Sheffield – once again on a Monday evening, with a kick-off time of 9:00 PM.
