In 1976 Trabzonspor became the first club from outside Istanbul to win the Turkish championship, breaking a monopoly that had lasted since the league began. Six titles have followed, the most recent in 2022, and in Trabzon the rivalry with the Istanbul clubs is a matter of identity rather than sport.

The stadium holds around 41,500 and was built on reclaimed land directly on the coast — from the upper tiers you look out over the sea behind the far stand.

A coast most visitors miss
