St Johnstone tickets at McDiarmid Park in Perth

St Johnstone tickets at McDiarmid Park

In 2021 St Johnstone won the Scottish Cup and the League Cup in the same season, a double previously managed only by the Glasgow clubs and Aberdeen. For a club from a town of 47,000 it was the story of the Scottish decade.

McDiarmid Park, on the western edge of Perth, holds around 10,700 and was the first all-seater, fully covered stadium in Britain when it opened in 1989 — built on farmland a local farmer handed over to the club.

Perth, the gateway to the Highlands

Perth was once the capital of Scotland and sits on the River Tay, an hour north of both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scone Palace, where the Scottish kings were crowned, is on the edge of town, and the Highlands begin twenty minutes further north — good reason to build a couple of days around the fixture.
