Day 2: The Last Qualifying Round Meets the First Main-Draw Matches

On 20 April 2027, two tournament phases overlap: the final qualifying matches decide who claims the last main-draw spots, while the first round-one matches of the 96-player main draw already get the real competition underway.

Two Tournaments in One Day

On one side of the grounds, qualifiers fight through a final, often nerve-shredding match for a place in the main draw. On the other, directly entered and seeded players are already contesting their opening matches – making for an unusually packed day of tennis and shifting moods across the whole site.

Fresh Faces Join the Field

Winners of the last qualifying round move straight into the main draw, often facing a seeded player immediately – one of the most appealing storylines of the whole tournament for underdog fans.

Madrid Tip: The Prado Museum

Day two is a good moment for a morning at the Prado Museum, one of the world's great art collections, before heading to the Caja Mágica by metro in the afternoon.
