On Friday 28 May 2027 Harry Styles plays Soldier Field in Chicago. It is the first of two nights in Illinois — and the start of a long weekend, with Memorial Day falling on the Monday.

The stadium on the lake

Soldier Field sits where nothing else in Chicago does: right on the shore of Lake Michigan, south of downtown on the Museum Campus. From the stands you see water to the horizon on one side and the skyline on the other.

It opened in 1924, making it one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL; in 2003 the interior was rebuilt entirely and dropped inside the historic colonnades. At around 61,500 seats it is one of the smaller grounds — an advantage for concertgoers: a compact bowl and short sightlines.

Of the US dates, Chicago is the one where the city itself offers most: architecture, museums, jazz and blues clubs, and pleasant weather in May. The Friday on Memorial Day weekend leaves three days for all of it — though the city is in demand then, which shows in hotel rates.

Getting to the stadium

The Museum Campus setting is the great advantage. From downtown it is a few minutes by bus or commuter rail, and the walk from the Loop along the lakefront is worth recommending in its own right in good weather. The Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium are next door — an afternoon before the show plans itself.
