The second round begins: AO Legends, doubles and Melbourne's sporting history – with hotel
Last updated: 28 July 2026
On 20 January 2027, the second round gets underway at Melbourne Park. The field has halved to 128 players – from here on, every loss ends a player's tournament, and matches noticeably sharpen in intensity.
Alongside the singles main draw, this phase of the tournament also brings the doubles competitions into their first tense rounds. On top of that, the popular AO Legends exhibition matches featuring former stars add extra program highlights beyond the singles draw – one more reason to hop between courts on this particular day.
A Ground Pass still lets you follow several matches across different courts on Day 4 – ideal for catching both singles and doubles action from the second round.
A short trip from Melbourne Park sits the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground, one of the largest stadiums in the Southern Hemisphere. Its attached National Sports Museum offers a window into Australian sporting history – from cricket to Australian Football to the 1956 Olympic Games, held right here.
