The 96-player draw kicks off at the historic Foro Italico
Last updated: 29 July 2026
On 5 May 2027, the Foro Italico opens its gates for the first round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Matches run simultaneously across several courts as the men's and women's draws both begin — the start of twelve intense tournament days in the heart of Rome.
Round one is often the toughest moment of the tournament for many players: one early lapse in judgement, one nervous slip, and the Roman clay-court week is over before it began. That pressure tends to produce some of the most gripping tennis of the entire event.
As with most Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 events, tickets for the early rounds are the most affordable of the fortnight — an ideal way to soak up the Foro Italico atmosphere with a full schedule and smaller crowds.
Use the gaps between matches for a walk to the historic Ponte Milvio bridge or the neighbouring Stadio Olimpico — both are within easy walking distance of the grounds.
