The double eagle and the Agia Sophia

AEK were founded in Athens in 1924 by Greeks forced out of Constantinople. The Byzantine double-headed eagle on the badge records it, and the new ground is known as the Agia Sophia after the church in the city they left. It stands in Nea Filadelfia, the district where those refugees settled.
