Coldplay 2027: “somewhere in southern Africa” — and then?

It was the last night of a tour that had broken every record going. Wembley, 12 September 2025, the tenth night in a row. And then Chris Martin said the sentence a whole fanbase has been holding on to ever since: there would be more — “somewhere in southern Africa, in about eighteen months”.

Eighteen months. Do the maths and you land in spring 2027. The rumour mill has been running ever since: Cape Town, Johannesburg, eleven nights in Madrid, stadiums across Europe. Here is what fans are getting excited about — and where a little caution is in order, because a remarkable amount is currently being invented about Coldplay.

The 138 shows nobody talks about any more

A week before the Wembley finale, Martin had already thrown out a number, and it is a striking one: the tour still had 138 concerts ahead of it. The 2027 dates, he said, would be announced “soon”.

For scale: the tour so far ran to 225 concerts in 43 countries, seen by 13.1 million people. Anyone taking another 138 seriously is not talking about a farewell lap around South Africa. They are talking about a multi-year continuation that goes halfway round the world.

Africa: a return after fifteen years

One misunderstanding is stubbornly persistent, and we are glad to clear it up, because the truth makes the better story. This would not be Coldplay's first concert in Africa.

In October 2011 the band played there twice, both times to a sold-out house: on 5 October at Cape Town Stadium in front of around 65,000 people, three days later at the FNB Stadium in Soweto in front of around 62,000. The video for “Paradise” — the dancing elephant — was filmed on exactly that trip.

So it would be a return after fifteen years. And it would have a charm of its own: the “Music of the Spheres” tour has played five continents while leaving out Africa, the only inhabited continent it missed. Closing that gap would be a fitting keystone for a tour that is already the best-attended of all time.

Why “March 2027” should be taken with a pinch of salt

Martin said “about eighteen months”. He did not say March, and he did not say South Africa — he said southern Africa, which also takes in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Out of “about eighteen months” the fanbase made “March 2027” the same evening; others read it as mid-2027. Both are calculations, not announcements. South Africa is the obvious guess, because that is where the only stadiums on this scale stand — but a guess it remains.

And a sober look belongs here too: a good eleven of those eighteen months have passed. coldplay.com still says “There are no dates currently scheduled”. A stadium run of this size is usually announced earlier.

We would not give up on it, though. The current tour was announced in October 2021 and started in March 2022 — roughly five months' notice. On that pattern, autumn 2026 would be exactly the right moment for an announcement. It could happen any day.

The hottest tip is not Cape Town at all — it is Madrid

This is the turn most people miss. Spanish radio network Cadena COPE reported that Coldplay are negotiating eleven concerts at the Metropolitano in Madrid. Eleven nights in a 70,000-seat stadium would be a statement even for this band.

It is not confirmed, and Live Nation España is saying nothing. But it is the best-supported pointer to 2027 there is — and from London, Dublin, Amsterdam or Copenhagen, Madrid is a far easier weekend than Johannesburg. Two to three hours in the air instead of eleven, and the city throws in the rest of the trip for free.

Coldplay 2027 tour dates and tickets: beware the invented ones

We would rather not write this section, but it matters more than anything else here.

Search for Coldplay dates in 2027 and you will find plenty — London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Berlin, all of it. And none of it is true. Researching this article we ran into a whole network of sites that simply invent tour announcements: a supposed co-headline tour with Imagine Dragons, a “Music of the Spheres: The Cosmic Journey”, a tour opening at the O2 Arena in London, more than sixty stadium shows. In polished, plausible-looking English.

The giveaway is always the same: these sites contradict each other. One has London and Dublin, the next has Amsterdam and Munich.

The check takes ten seconds: open coldplay.com/tour. If the date is not there, it does not exist. That applies to every seller — including us.

No, this is not a farewell tour

Another misunderstanding that keeps resurfacing. Chris Martin has said Coldplay will release twelve albums and then no more. That concerns albums — not concerts. In the same breath he said the band would carry on touring.

So “your last chance to see Coldplay live” is not an argument, it is a sales trick. We do not use it.

Coldplay tickets and travel packages: how we work

While nothing is announced, nobody is selling 2027 tickets in good faith. Anyone offering you a Coldplay ticket for 2027 today is selling you a guess.

What we can do is put you in position. Tell us on our Coldplay page which city appeals to you and how many of you would travel. As soon as dates are set, we come back to you — with ticket and hotel from one source, and flights and transfers if you want them.

That we can do this we showed on the last tour: Coldplay packages for Düsseldorf, Munich, Vienna and London, including a mini-cruise from Hamburg on the Queen Mary 2 with the London concert built in. You will not find combinations like that on a ticket exchange.

One piece of advice that has nothing to do with us: sign up for the “Coldplay Messenger” newsletter on coldplay.com. The band traditionally works with presale codes for subscribers before general sale opens. Tell us in parallel, and you are covered on both routes.

Quick answers

When will 2027 tickets go on sale?
No presale date is known. Going by the last tour's lead time — around five months — an announcement in autumn 2026 would be plausible.

Is the tour really starting in South Africa?
Chris Martin said “somewhere in southern Africa”. South Africa is the obvious reading; it is not confirmed.

Will Coldplay play the UK or Ireland in 2027?
There is no reliable source for it. Every city currently circulating comes from sites that invent tour dates.

What will tickets cost?
Not a single price is documented. Any figure you find is made up.

Is this the farewell tour?
No. After the twelfth album the band intends to stop making albums — and keep touring.
