Home of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia

Roma, Italy

A historic tennis and sports complex in northern Rome, with the Stadio Centrale as its main show court.

The Foro Italico — Tennis Among Rome's Marble Statues

Visiting the Internazionali BNL d'Italia means stepping into one of Europe's most striking sporting ensembles: the Foro Italico, set on the banks of the Tiber in northern Rome, just a short walk from the Stadio Olimpico. Built between 1928 and 1938 under its original name "Foro Mussolini", the complex still bears the signature of architects Enrico Del Debbio and Luigi Moretti, who created a monumental ensemble of marble, mosaics and clean rationalist lines.

The Stadio dei Marmi next door

Right beside the tennis courts sits the Stadio dei Marmi, inaugurated in 1932 and lined with 60 larger-than-life marble statues once donated by Italy's provinces. A stroll between matches takes you through one of the world's most unusual sporting monuments.

From a Milan debut to a Roman home

The Italian championship was first held in Milan in 1930 before moving to the Foro Italico in Rome in 1935 — and the venue has been the tournament's permanent home ever since.

Stadio Centrale and the roof to come

The centrepiece is the Stadio Centrale, completely rebuilt in 2010 and seating around 10,400, alongside the Grand Stand Arena (roughly 5,000 seats), the Nicola Pietrangeli Stadium (roughly 3,720 seats) and 18 clay courts in total. From 2026, a partially retractable roof costing around €60 million is being built over Center Court, with completion scheduled for late 2027 — in time for the 2028 edition, which will offer weather-protected seating for up to 12,400 spectators.

Rome-Fiumicino and Rome-Ciampino airports connect the city to international flights; from either, train or bus service reaches the centre, with bus or taxi onward to the Foro Italico. Find all dates, tickets and travel packages on our ATP Rome page.
