Melbourne experiences peak summer in January — temperatures above 35°C (95°F) are not unusual. For exactly this reason, the Australian Open runs its own Extreme Heat Policy: in extreme heat, play is suspended on the outside courts, while the roofed main stadiums remain unaffected. Tickets are sold for Day or Night Sessions, each with its own schedule. Melbourne Park is only around a 10-minute walk from the city centre and easily reached via tram route 70 (Rod Laver Arena stop).
