Napoli host Arsenal on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. A European night in Naples is an experience in itself, and the city around it justifies the trip on its own.

The stadium and its name

Known as the San Paolo until 2020, it now carries Diego Armando Maradona's name. Under him Napoli won their first two league titles, in 1987 and 1990, and the UEFA Cup in 1989 - for a city long patronised in Italian football, that meant far more than sport. Capacity is around 54,700 in the Fuorigrotta district, with the metro and the Cumana line stopping within walking distance.

Naples

The old city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and among the densest and liveliest in Europe. Ferries run from the port to Capri and Ischia, the Circumvesuviana reaches Pompeii and Herculaneum in half an hour, and Vesuvius stands over all of it. Naples is also where pizza was invented, which is not a detail here.

Getting there

Direct flights from across Europe, with the Alibus running from the airport into the centre. Three nights will not exhaust the city.
