Manchester City tickets for the Champions League match with AEK Athens

City host AEK on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, welcoming a club that still carries its origins on its badge.

Founded by refugees

AEK was formed in Athens in 1924 by Greeks displaced from Constantinople. The name means Athletic Union of Constantinople, the Byzantine double-headed eagle records it, and the stadium opened in 2022 is known as the Agia Sophia after the church in the city they left.

The Etihad

Built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games and City's home since they left Maine Road in 2003. The club won this competition in 2023 as part of a treble. Trams stop at Etihad Campus, ten minutes from the centre.

Manchester

Direct flights from across northern Europe, fifteen minutes by train from the airport into town, and the Northern Quarter and Science and Industry Museum for the afternoon.
