At 2 PM on June 27, 2025, the time had finally come: the German Football League (DFL) published the full schedule for the Bundesliga 2025/26 season.
Bundesliga 2025/26 Schedule: Where do Bayern and BVB play at the start?
It was already announced the day before that reigning champions Bayern Munich would host RB Leipzig in the opening match on August 22, 2025 (8:30 PM).
Eintracht Frankfurt fans can look forward to a classic at the start: a home game against Werder Bremen.
Bundesliga tickets will also be in high demand on Hamburg’s Reeperbahn on matchday 1 – Champions League participants Borussia Dortmund will visit FC St. Pauli at the Millerntor Stadium. Reviersport called it a "fortunate start for BVB." Fair enough.
On matchday 2 (August 29 / 31, 2025), BVB hosts 1. FC Union Berlin for their season home opener.
When is the Hamburg Derby: HSV vs FC St. Pauli?
The highlight of matchday 2 is HSV vs FC St. Pauli – the Hamburg derby returns to the Bundesliga top flight after a 14-year hiatus. “That’s cool,” said Pauli coach Alexander Blessin after ensuring survival on matchday 33 with a 2:2 draw in Frankfurt – and we couldn’t agree more. HSV vs St. Pauli at Volksparkstadion – definitely our “Match of the Week.”
After the international break in early September, FC Bayern will face Hamburger SV on matchday 3 (September 12 / 14, 2025).
As in the previous year after an international break, this time also features Bayer Leverkusen vs Eintracht Frankfurt.

When is the “league classic” Bayern vs BVB?
Earlier than last year (November 30, 2024, 1:1), the 2025 edition of “Gib mich den Klassiker” will take place – the last Ruhr club in the Bundesliga and five-time German champions versus record champions. BVB visits FC Bayern Munich on matchday 7 after the October international break (October 17 / 19, 2025). Last year, Dortmund managed a 2:2 draw at the Allianz Arena.
The return match at the Westfalenstadion is scheduled for matchday 24 (March 20 / 22, 2026).
When do the last champions, FC Bayern and Bayer 04, meet?
On matchday 9 (October 31 / November 2, 2025), Bayern Munich will host the restructured 2024 champions Bayer Leverkusen. The return leg in the BayArena is on matchday 26 (March 13 / 15, 2026). Leverkusen knocked Bayern out of the DFB-Pokal in 2024 (1:0).
When does Hamburg play against BVB and Bremen?
Hamburger SV vs Borussia Dortmund – without a doubt, the top match of matchday 10 (November 7 / 9, 2025). The “Rothosen” will then travel to Dortmund on matchday 27 (March 22 / 22, 2026).
The big northern derby against Werder Bremen takes place on matchday 13 (December 5 / 7, 2025) – first at home. The return match at the Weserstadion: April 17 / 19, 2026.
When is the final matchday of the first half of the season 2025/26?
The Bundesliga first half ends – just like last season – in the new calendar year, between January 13 and 15, 2026. Among others, the fixtures include Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen and HSV vs Bayer Leverkusen.
Is there a winter break?
The Bundesliga winter break is significantly shortened due to the World Cup in America in June 2026.
Matchday 15 ends on December 21, 2025, featuring the Borussia derby BVB vs Mönchengladbach.
The season resumes on January 9, 2026, with matchday 16 – including fixtures like Eintracht Frankfurt vs BVB and FC St. Pauli vs RB Leipzig.
When does the Bundesliga 2025/26 season end?
The 34th and final matchday (all games at 3:30 PM) is on May 16, 2026. Borussia Dortmund travels to Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen faces HSV, Eintracht Frankfurt meets VfB Stuttgart, and Bayern Munich plays against 1. FC Köln.
